Create virtual budget card

Learn how to create a virtual cards to spend from funds assigned to you in a budget.

As a budget member in J.P. Morgan Next, you can create virtual cards to spend funds assigned to you. These cards cannot be assigned to someone else.

Note: You must create a budget in Next before creating a virtual budget card. There is not an option to create a budget during card creation.


Create card from the mobile app

  1. In the Navigation Bar, tap Virtual cards

    • If the Virtual Cards icon is not in your Navigation Bar, tap More, then tap Virtual cards

  2. Tap +Virtual card

  3. Enter a name for the card in the Card name field

  4. Tap the Budget field

  5. Select a budget that this virtual card will allocate funds from

  6. If you are authorized to spend from all budget funds, select how funds are spent in the Set a spending limit section:

    • To spend what's assigned to you in a budget, select Assigned funds only

    • To spend up to the total amount of funds in a budget, select Unassigned budget funds

  7. If you selected the Unassigned budget funds option, you can set a limit for a budget card by tapping the Set specific limit

    • Enter the limit for the card

    • If the budget includes future budget periods, you can set a limit for all future periods

  8. In the Card expires field, select an expiration date for the card

  9. In the Cardholder field, select a cardholder

  10. You can also make selections for required fields and optional fields in the Prefill fields sections

    • Note: Your selections apply to every transaction made on the card

  11. Tap Create card

    • Notes:

      • There may be a short delay after attempting to create the card

      • Do not tap the Create card button more than once or you may create duplicate cards

  12. View your new card

    • Note: You can always view all of your virtual cards on the Virtual Cards page


Create card from a web browser

  1. In the Navigation Menu, select Cards

  2. Select Create virtual card

  3. If you are an admin, select Budget card

    • Learn more about creating custom-limit virtual cards

  4. Enter a name for your virtual card in the Card name field

  5. Select the budget you want funds to pull from

    • Note: You can also view the amount of funds available to you in the budget

  6. You can also make selections for required fields and optional fields in the Prefill transactions on this card section

    • Note: Your selections apply to every transaction made on the card

  7. To automatically split transactions, select Auto-split transactions

  8. To finish creating your virtual card, select Create card
